His Movie Review: Rosewater (2014)

Why he watched it: Respect for Jon Steward and positive reviews

His rating: 3.5 out of 5 start

His review: This is a thoughtful movie, in the story it tells and in the history it covers. In the sad world of comparing hostile regimes and their treatment of dissidents, Maziar Bahari’s months in Iranian prison may seem modest. Watch Hunger to see the extreme years long suffering of IRA in Irish prison. But Bahari’s story is still worth seeing to remind us of the power of the individual against the state.

Stewart’s movie is well directed and well acted. Bahari’s personal journey, in prison, of reflecting on his father and sister’s own imprisonment, makes this more than a message movie. Its thoughtful and engaging, and worth seeing.

Interesting, but still a bit messy. Maybe Stewart will hone his craft a bit more once he leaves the Daily Show. Nice review.
